Dinner Rolls with Garlic Herb Butter

What you need for rolls:

  • 1 Packet of Instant Yeast

  • 1/2 cup warm water (not too hot)

  • 1 cup of milk - I used reduced fat

  • 4 tablespoons unsalted butter - melted

  • 2 tablespoons of sugar

  • 1/2 tablespoon salt

  • 4 cups of unbleached all purpose flour

  • 1 egg - for egg wash

What you need for garlic herb butter:

  • 2 tablespoons unsalted butter - melted

  • 1/4 teaspoon garlic powder

  • 1/4 teaspoon onion powder

  • 1/2 teaspoon parsley flakes

What to do:

  1. Starting with a small glass bowl - pour your yeast packet in & mix with your warm (not too hot or you’ll kill the yeast) water. Move that bowl aside until small bubbles appear on the surface - this means your yeast has been activated (mine took around 5 minutes)!

  2. While you’re waiting on your yeast to activate - mix together the milk, melted butter & sugar.

  3. Once your first glass bowl has activated - add in your milk mixture & whisk well.

  4. In a stand mixer or if you do not have a stand mixer get another large bowl out - add flour & salt & then mix.

  5. Add your milk/yeast mixture - if you are using a stand mixer - use your breadhook and let it run for about 5 minutes until the dough is a smooth ball. If you’re doing it by hand knead your dough for about 10 minutes until it is a smooth ball.

  6. Cover your dough with either plastic wrap or a clean kitchen towel.

  7. Place dough in your oven with light on for an hour or in the warmest place in your kitchen!

  8. When the hour is up (or your dough has doubled in size)- punch down your dough (so fun!). On a floured surface - lay your dough out and arrange it so you can cut into four equal strips. Take each strip and cut them into 3 equal pieces. You should have twelve (12) pieces in total.

  9. Shape those 12 pieces into smooth dough balls and place in a 9x13 greased pan (I did coconut oil & they didn’t stick at all).

  10. Put your plastic wrap or kitchen towel over the pan and place it in the warmest part of your kitchen again - for at least 30 minutes until the dough has gotten nice and fluffy.

  11. Preheat your oven to 375 degrees & whisk one egg for your egg wash.

  12. Once your dough is done rising - brush the egg wash all over your rolls & stick in the oven for 17-20 minutes or until golden brown! Mine took about 18 minutes.

  13. When your rolls are baking prepare the garlic herb butter - melt your butter and then place the herbs in and set aside!

  14. Now the fun part, take your rolls out of the oven and brush the garlic herb butter allllll over - now you are ready to dig in :)
