Homemade Buttermilk Cornbread

How long it took me: 40 minutes & 33 seconds

What you need:

  • 1/2 cup of butter

  • 2/3 cup of sugar

  • 2 large eggs

  • 1 cup of buttermilk

  • 1/2 teaspoon baking soda

  • 1 cup cornmeal

  • 1 cup flour

  • 1/4 teaspoon salt

What to do:

  1. Start by preheating yoru oven to 375 degrees

  2. Then, melt your butter in a cast iron skillet (or any baking safe deep skillet) on the stove over medium heat.

  3. Once the butter is alllll the way melted, remove from heat & add in the sugar. Stir until extremely well combined.

  4. Very quickly - add in the 2 eggs and whisk whisk whisk whisk make sure you’ve beaten those heavily into the mixture.

  5. Add in the buttermilk & baking soda and stir

  6. Next, add the flour, cornmeal and salt

  7. Once everything is all mixed nicely (you’ll have some bumps & lumps), put your skillet in the oven and bake for 25 -35 minutes (depends on your oven!). Really, once the toothpick comes out clean you’re ready to roll.
